TAP

In this post I will be talking about our preferred target audience for our film and comparing our film to others of the same genre.

As we did in AS we must look at our target audience and establish our media profile. This would entail demographic, age and other general information. This post will also show our thoughts on the age classification the reasoning behind it. We will also look at other films from PearlandDean.com (which provide statistics for other films) to compare with our demographics. The target audience is typically going to be 'teenagers' more specifically, teenage girls ranging from 12 - 18 my reasoning would be that there is no reference to swearing or any forms of violence, which is not following typical romance conventions anyway. The genre of our film is romance, automatically making it a preference for girls but of course not exclusively. Below is the demographics list:

If I allocate the target audience to a particular demograph it would be E and/or D since the age range would match the student description, also they are more than likely going to be unemployed, at the very least be doing part time work. Here we will look at the target demographics for other films from PearlandDean.com particularly looking at films within the romance genre so the statistics can relate to our own film.

Our Target Audience Profile

This is Amy; she is a 16 year old, white female. She enjoys any film which involve romance such as Safe Haven and The Vow. She is currently a student studying her A-levels. She lives with her family  and spends most of his spare time seeing friends. She has accounts on both Facebook and Twitter in which she uses on a regular basis. She loves going to the cinemas with friends and her preferred music taste is pop.

Safe Haven

Safe haven is a romance like our own short film and as you can see, 76% of the audience were female and 62% of the total audience were aged between 15 and 24 however demographics show that 36% of this audience were C1 meaning they were above white collar workers.

The Vow

As you can see, 64% of this audience were female however there is slightly more male members here. 43% were aged between 15-24. This film would match our films target demographics more closely as 39% of the people who watched this film had been categorised as DE. Meaning it is most likely that the majority of this audience were teenage girls who were students.

In the next post I will be talking about our storyboard for our film.
