Film brand research
Before I start with my film poster I first have to research other films and how their teaser poster and trailer hints at what will be in the film.
I've chosen to do The Holiday, this is the poster for it.
We can see that this poster is a very simple one with only the four main characters in the shot, the framing and positioning of the top and bottom section of the poster are very similar, we can tell from the pictures chosen that the male and female characters will be involved in some way, whether romantic or not.
We can also see that the pictures are meant to be the main focus, as the steel tong font is placed at the bottom and is very faint, it isn't meant to catch the viewers eye, the picture is, so it is made as small and faint as possible.
From this poster we can see that it is meant to be a cheery atmosphere, we can see this from the characters smiling, either at each other or smiling at the other as they look down and smile. We can also see this in the colours used, they aren't dark or depressing, they are what I would describe as homey and warm.
This would hint at the audience that the film will be a romance with a loving feeling, this is also shown in the trailer used.
Another thing that the poster doesn't give away that the trailer mentions is that it is a christmas film, this would actually encourage people to watch it as it is shown to be feel good romance film at christmas.

Film Poster
The next task I had to do was create a film poster for our short film, before we did this we had to look at existing products from films from our genre.
I deconstructed two romance posters to see what we would need when we created ours.

To create our poster we had to use photoshop, luckily we had someone in our group who was marginally skilled at photoshop and were able to complete the poster without much hassle.
One of the members of our group created a video of the creation of our film poster.
This is the rough cut of the film poster that we received feedback on.
Our film poster was roughly based off of one we fond online.
The main thing from this poster was the composition, how it was split into three sections, we thought this would look good on our poster, but instead of keeping it exactly the same we switched it around so it was going down instead of across.
Feedback
Most of the feedback was positive, complimenting the pictures and colours, there were only minor things like making the tagline bigger.
Our audience felt that the tagline wasn't big enough and got pretty much looked over because of the size of the title, the tagline did fit the rest of the text on the poster but wasn't able to be read from a distance away. The solution to this was making it bigger so that it stood out more and wasn't washed out by the title.

Another piece of feedback we got was that they weren't sure that the reviews were necessary as they didn't really follow the conventions of a film poster and weren't needed or necessary.
I beg to differ and have found examples of film posters with reviews that worked very well and looked right.

Another piece of feedback was that there shouldn't be shadows around the actors images as it didn't look right, this was fixed simply enough by re-editing it so that the shadows were no longer there.
Final cut
This is the final cut of our film poster after all things have been fixed, the tagline, the shadows and the reviews.
Overall I am pleased with how our film poster came out and feel that it shows the film genre and the overall plot of the film being a romance between the two characters on the poster. Also the colours help illustrate the fact that it's a romance as they are light and happy colours usually used to convey happy and loving feelings.
