Magazine Review
For A2 we were required to create a magazine review and a film poster, to do this we had to learn how to use a piece of software called QuarkXpress. To learn how to use this we had to watch and follow a video tutorial showing us how to create our magazine review.
After following this tutorial I was able to construct my own magazine review, which I have embedded below. Since this is only a test and not the real review of our film I have used Lorem Ipsum, which is a placeholder text commonly used to demonstrate where content would go.
The feedback I was given was to add more content into where the writing would be and to make the image smaller as it was taking up too much space. In the end the above is the final draft.
After I had created the magazine review we were set a task to create a magazine cover, this would help us by allowing us to not have to follow a specific layout.
At first I started off by researching what Empire magazine covers looked like, how they framed the main image, if it was all right that the text was covering the image, things like that.

One of the
conventions with Empire is that it doesn't matter if the image is covering the
title because it's already a popular magazine that is easily recognizable, they
also have sticker like images on most of their covers, such as the one on the
iron man cover saying "Ultimate Review Of 2009". Lastly something
they always do is have all their text in CAPITALS.
I also did a deconstruction
of a magazine front cover before making my own.
The task itself was actually
very difficult for me to start, mostly because I couldn't figure out how to
make my title transparent for it to work with my image, this caused me to use
Photoshop for pretty much the first time and led to a lot of fiddling with
things and deleting things just to start over again out of annoyance, however
after I'd figured it out with help from friends and Google, it was pretty
simple to put together.
I actually didn't have to
make any changes to my draft apart from framing the text in my sticker-like
thing a little more towards the centre, which I was quite pleased with since I
actually worked quite hard on the cover.

One of our ancillary tasks was to create a magazine review for our film and make it look realistic enough to be in an actual magazine.
Here is the rough draft of the review.

This has pretty much everything except for the actual content, currently it is filled with Lorem Ipsum.
Here is the final product, I personally think it came out looking great and professional.
