Evaluation of film ideas

In this I will be evaluating my production teams film pitches and deciding what film to go along with.

Mine - My idea was a mystery/thriller film where a woman who has been in a coma for almost a year wakes up in the hospital with slight memory loss and can't remember how she ended up in the coma in the first place. As the story progresses we find out that she has PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) and is repressing the memory, throughout we see her having flash backs and nightmares about what happened to her, it ends with her asking to make a statement at a police station.

My film idea has a lot more cons that pros, for example, that is just a shortened version of my pitch but it has many problems like how we would show her in the hospital, how would we be able to show how she ended up in the coma, it also would take a lot more time to film and edit it for only small details. It wasn't a very well thought out idea to begin with. Another con would be the fact that there were a lot of locations to film, the hospital, the attack, the police station and at home, that would take a lot of time to film in all of these place and are hard to recreate them.

Also, the video below is my first film pitch that was abandoned.

Jordan's - Jordan's idea was to do a romance film, unlike James and I, Jordan didn't have to change his idea after pitching it to the group. Jordan's film was by far the one that had the least amount of cons and had obviously been well thought out.

The pro's of Jordan's idea are that he created an interesting plot which still follows short film conventions (only needs a max of 3 characters, can work on a low budget) and that recruitment is easy, for example, we already have an idea of who we want as our actors and we already have two out of three locations to film at.
Th con of Jordan's idea is that I feel it would take a lot of editing to show the two different outcomes.

James - The video below is of Jame's first pitch, like me he had to completely re-worked his idea because of complications and then made a horror film.
The new film plot was a man who believes in the devil locking himself in his house and recording what happens for days to show people that he isn't crazy, on the recording he can be seen talking to thin air but he is supposedly speaking to the devil who he can see. This continues until the twist happens, which is that when he looks in the mirror, he is actually the devil.

I, myself really liked this idea as it would be something that we hadn't tried before and that it would be interesting to see how it turned out. His film did fit the conventions of a short film, low budget and few actors, however, the actor would have to be very believable.
The cons of James film would be that we'd need a completely empty house with a lot of space for things to be going on, also the camerawork would be difficult to set up since they'd have to see the entire of a room.

In the end we decided that we were going to do Jordan's idea as it was the one with the least amount of cons and it had a good story line. In the video below we discussed the film and who would do what tasks.

In the next post I will be talking about our ideal target audience.
