Final Cut

In this post I will be posting the final cut of our film.

Here is our re-edited film that we hosted on youtube.

Our main problem was that our story wasn't coming across clearly to our audience so we had to change the narrative of it, we did this by putting in a voice over of our protagonist narrating the story as it goes along.

Rough Cut

In this post I will be talking about my groups  rough cut and presenting a video of the feedback we received.

This is the rough cut of our film that was presented to the class.

Feedback

While the other group gathered feedback by having us write down what we thought on a whiteboard and recording our voices, our group filmed our target audience and had them write on whiteboards and say their feedback. This is the result.

Through this feedback we can see that the meaning of our film wasn't coming across to our audience and that it was possibly the sequence that was the problem. Mostly it was small things that were the problem, like rustling of blankets after they've stopped moving, other than that the biggest problem is the sequence.

Re-shoots and re-edits

After we gathered our feedback we were given another week to make improvements to our film. that included re-shooting our film and re-editiing it.

Our group personally didn't have to re-shoot anything because it was said that most of the problems were with the storyline and sequence and small things like the soundtrack carrying on when it didn't need to.

Some examples of things we had to re-edit are the fact that in one scene when she's getting out of bed the blankets keep rustling when they are no longer moving, so the soundtrack for that had to be cut shorter, also it was mentioned that there was too much foley where it wasn't needed, like footsteps that weren't needed.

Another problem we had was that the soundtrack was too loud and had to be lowered so it was more subtle.

We also had to cut a scene about two or three seconds shorter on the train platform because it looked like she was being directed when to start walking, which she was, but the shot was too long and it showed it.

Another re-edit that had to be done was dubbing the actors voices, there was a problem with the dialogue and the fact that we couldn't hear it very well because of the wind.

One of the biggest problems was the sequence of events, the storyline wasn't coming across to our audience and the fact that we had to describe it to them wasn't exactly professional, we changed this by adding a narrative to our film, which was the fact that our protagonist was narrating the events of her life as it was playing, we also switched the sequences so that they followed pretty much one after another and made more sense.

Those are the re-shoots and re-edits that we had to do for our film, I found that the feedback really helped get our film to it's best appearance.

In the next post I will be exhibiting our final cut

Editing Footage

In this post I will be talking about editing the footage that we filmed.

All the editing was done in Final Cut Express, this is a screen shot of the footage being edited.

Each one of us had certain tasks to complete in editing, Jordan was responsible for editing the footage, James for soundtrack and I was in charge of finding music for the soundtrack.

In the next post I will be showing my rough cut and feedback.

Shooting on location

In this post I will be talking about and showing examples of our shooting on location.

Our group recently went out filming on location and while we were there I and other members of our group took pictures of our filming experience.

In this picture we can see our lead male leaning against a wall in the filming location before we shoot a scene, we can also see our camera operator Jordan setting up the camera for the scene and our screen writer James reading the script.

In this picture we can see our camera operator Jordan taking a close up shot of one of our main props, a pen that our female lead drops so that our lead male, Brad, can pick up the pen and it can act as a form of conversation starter for them.

In this picture we can see our lead male, Brad, taking an interest in seeing the scene that was just filmed and looking for anything he could improve.

This session of filming was successful and went on without many problems, any problems that came up were solved.

In the next post I will be showing evidence of editing the footage that we filmed.
